We’d like to make it as easy as possible for you to choose and order your books. So, here’s some information about placing orders and delivery options, as well as an introduction to The Folio Society and what we do.

    Our website and customer service team are operating as normal to give you uninterrupted access to our beautiful books at this difficult time.  Our first priority is to keep our people, customers and suppliers safe and well and we are following all necessary guidelines to ensure that no-one is at increased risk.

  • How do I submit my illustrations for consideration?

    We enjoy finding new and talented illustrators. If you have suitable work for our commissions, we welcome digital submissions only. Please familiarise yourself with the kind of books we publish and the type of work we commission before sending anything. Most commissions are for adult fiction titles. We are looking for a good response to the text, conveying tension, mood, drama, period details, characterisation, repetition and interaction of characters, etc. 

    If your work is suitable, please send a small number of appropriate samples as lo-res jpegs (total size no bigger than 2MB) and a link to your website, emailed to illustration@foliosociety.com. Due to time, I’m afraid we won’t be able to acknowledge submissions. Any suitable work will be saved for future reference and we will contact you should an opportunity arise. 

    If your portfolio doesn’t as yet demonstrate an ability to illustrate adult fiction, you might like to undertake a personal project – choosing a well-known book and developing a short series of illustrations. Think carefully about characterisation – how characters will interact and repetition of main characters; try to engage the reader with emotion, tension, atmosphere and consider different compositions to make the illustration interesting; undertake research if the book requires it, for example historical clothing or room settings.

Also, we strongly suggest you enter the annual Book Illustration Competition which we run with House of Illustration. Each year entrants are asked to submit three finished illustrations and a binding design for a title chosen by us, the winner receives a commission to fully illustrate this title.   • What are the benefits of an online account?

  • How do I set up an online account?

    If you’re an existing Folio customer, you’ll need a password to log in to your account on the new website.

    Click on Reset Password on the Customer Log In page and we’ll email a password to you. New Folio customers should click the Create an Account link and follow the instructions.

  • How do I log in to my account?

    Click on the Log In link and follow the instructions depending on whether you’re a new or existing Folio customer.

Placing an order

  • I am having trouble with my order. Can someone help?

  • How do I edit my personal details online?

    Your personal details can be edited in the My Account section of our website by clicking here. You can update your contact details, keep track of orders and manage your contact preferences.

I am having trouble with my order. Can someone help?

    As you are aware, there is significant disruption to international air travel due to the Covid-19 virus.  As most of our parcels travel from the UK on commercial flights, we are working hard with our delivery partners to minimise the disruption to our deliveries.  Please accept our apologies should any delays occur and thank you for your patience.  We recommend that you use our express delivery service which is running as normal.  Details are available here. For your safety, all deliveries will take place in accordance with local restrictions and policy.

    For standard delivery, we normally advise up to 28 days for delivery as all our books are shipped from the UK.  However, the current situation means that we are not able to guarantee the delivery time at present.

    For express delivery, please allow 3 to 7 days for delivery from the UK.  You will receive tracking information for this service and there are currently no delays.

    If an item is temporarily unavailable and it cannot be supplied with the rest of your order, it will be despatched separately and you will not be charged additional postage for the delayed item. 

    If an item is out of stock we will contact you by email or phone to let you know if and when the item will be back in stock. This might affect the delivery timings.

  • Can you send my books to a different delivery address?

    Your books can be sent to a different delivery address at no additional cost. Please enter your desired delivery address during the checkout process. This can only be done online if the address you are sending to is in the same country as you are.

    If you would like to send books as a gift to someone in a country other than your own, please contact our customer service team who will be happy to help.

  • What should I do if my books are damaged?

    If you are at all concerned about your delivery, or have any further questions, please feel free to contact us here.

  • What is your returns policy?

    We are extremely proud of our books. We make every effort to describe them accurately and produce them to the highest possible standards.

    If for any reason a book does not meet your expectations, you may return it to us within four weeks and we will arrange for an exchange or refund (excluding postage). Please enclose a note explaining the reason for the return along with your name, address and your customer number. When returning a parcel to us we recommend you obtain proof of posting.

Can you send my books to a different delivery address?

Your books can be sent to a different delivery address at no additional cost. Please enter your desired delivery address during the checkout process. This can only be done online if the address you are sending to is in the same country as you are.
