What makes Folio books special?

From our first books in 1947 it has been our goal to create beautiful and authoritative editions of great literary works for readers.

The Folio Society brings together a worldwide community of book lovers who appreciate the quality and craftsmanship of fine editions. We have long been a haven for the eclectic and open-minded reader, providing a real depth both within and across genres.

Our non-fiction list ranges from the seminal ideas of Charles Darwin to the hard-nosed historical analysis of Martin Gilbert and the remarkable insights of Mary Beard’s Pompeii; whilst our fiction spans the wit of Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the intoxicating science fiction of Frank Herbert’s Dune and the whimsy of Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows.
How do I submit my illustrations for consideration?

Illustration is at the heart of everything we do at Folio, and we enjoy finding new and talented artists. If you have suitable work for our commissions, we welcome digital submissions only. Please familiarise yourself with the kind of books we publish and the type of work we commission before sending anything. Most commissions are for adult fiction titles. We are looking for a good response to the text, conveying tension, mood, drama, period details, characterisation, repetition and interaction of characters, etc.

If your work is suitable, please send a small number of appropriate samples as lo-res jpegs (total size no bigger than 2MB) and a link to your website, emailed to illustrations@foliosociety.com. Due to the number of submissions received, we unfortunately cannot acknowledge submissions. Any suitable work will be saved for future reference and we will contact you should an opportunity arise.

Do you have a physical shop?

Folio books are available exclusively through our website.

We don't, at present, have a physical shop in London. While we would love to be able to offer a bricks-and-mortar facility for people wanting to purchase or collect books, I'm afraid finding a suitable (and affordable!) solution in central London has proved somewhat difficult.
Do you sell to shops or other publishers?

Regrettably, we're a Direct-to-Consumer retailer only. Although a small range of our out-of-copyright books have previously been sold in The British Library we are unable to provide books for sale in other stores.
Can you publish my book?

Here at Folio, we are proud to produce books that have changed the world, books that entertain us, books that blow our minds… classics both ancient and modern in any number of genres. While we do publish a handful of never-before-seen titles we do not currently accept unsolicited manuscripts.
Can I send a Folio book as a gift?

If you are sending your order as a gift, please tick the box at checkout. We will make sure no prices are shown, and the books are packed in a plain box.
Can I leave a review?

We are always keen to hear what the Folio community of booklovers think of our books and would love you to leave a review of your latest read whether good or bad (we’d prefer good, obviously!) The reviews on the Folio website are managed by Trustpilot and you will receive an email from them asking for your thoughts in the weeks following your purchase.
