‘It has been such a joy to immerse myself in Ursula K Le. Guin’s world of dragons and magic and I feel truly privileged to have been given the opportunity to illustrate these books by the Folio Society. I look back proudly at the work I was able to create, initially with the blessing and kindness of Ursula herself and then, after her sad passing in 2018, with the guidance of her son Theo.

Earthsea has been a big part of my life for the past few years and I’m happy to have played a small part in bringing these timeless and wonderful books to life.’
  1. David Lupton

Ursula K. Le Guin built her fantasy worlds with an eye for realism and emotional truth; the result with the Books of Earthsea is a fantasy series that is as moving as it is magical.

Working closely with the author and her son Theo, David Lupton’s atmospheric paintings show Earthsea, and its inhabitants, as the author intended – a place of sea and salt; a world of light and shadow. Explore the geography of this fantastical place with printed map endpapers.

Each of the six books are bound in printed and blocked cloth with full page illustrations and individual slip cases. They’re a beautiful addition to any bookshelf and are designed to be read again and again.
