About the Author

James Clavell (1921–1994) was a British-Australian author, screenwriter and filmmaker. He is best known for his Asian Saga novels, including Shōgun (1975; Folio 2025), Tai-Pan (1966) and Noble House (1981). A prisoner of war during the Second World War, his experiences informed much of his writing. Clavell also wrote screenplays for films such as 'The Great Escape' and 'To Sir, with Love'. His novels are known for their historical scope and commercial success.
