Editor's Notes

A true modern classic, The Grapes of Wrath has lost none of its force in the nearly 90 years since its first publication and remains one of the great American novels.

This Folio book is bound in cloth and screen-printed in shades of deep navy and vibrant orange. The cover shows the Joad family setting out west in their overloaded truck, while the slipcase features Tom Joad amid the desolate fields of the farm. Inside, full-page colour illustrations by artist Gérard DuBois trace the family's journey, from the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma to the migrant camps along Route 66 and the flooded fields of California.
Synopsis

The land is cracked, the crops are gone and the banks want what little remains. Forced off their Oklahoma farm during the Great Depression, the Joad family pile into a battered truck and head west – chasing the promise of work and a future in California. What they find is something else entirely.

Blistering, tender and unforgettable, The Grapes of Wrath is Steinbeck’s mighty anthem for the displaced – an epic that hums with quiet resilience and righteous fury. As the Joads navigate hunger, hardship and the unyielding weight of injustice, Steinbeck unearths something enduring: the strength of community, the stubborn flicker of hope and the question of what it means to be human.
