Editor's Notes

Enid Blyton’s 'The Faraway Tree' stories have been delighting readers for over 80 years, and this Folio collection brings together the first three magical adventures in one beautifully illustrated set. The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree and The Folk of the Faraway Tree follow Jo, Bessie and Fanny as they climb into a tree where anything is possible – from sliding down a cushiony spiral to exploring topsy-turvy lands in the clouds.

These stories are pure imaginative joy – nostalgic for those revisiting them, and full of wonder for readers discovering them for the first time. Jonathan Burton’s illustrations brim with warmth, humour and just the right amount of mischief, perfectly capturing the spirit of Moonface, Silky and the Saucepan Man. Whether read aloud at bedtime or squirrelled away for solo reading, this bundle is an irresistible invitation to climb back into one of childhood’s most magical worlds.

About the Author

Enid Blyton (1897–1968) is one of the most popular children’s writers of all time: her books have sold hundreds of millions of copies in dozens of languages, and continue to inspire new generations with a love of reading. Famously prolific, she sometimes published more than 50 books a year, with more than 750 appearing in total across a 40-year career. Blyton’s best-loved fiction is from long-running series – including The Famous Five (1942), The Secret Seven (1949) and Malory Towers (1946) – and she also created enduring characters such as Noddy. Her creativity was coupled with a pioneering instinct for marketing and publicity, including the licensing of characters for board games, jigsaw puzzles and adaptations in other media. Blyton was born in South London and spent much of her adult life living in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
