In its 75th anniversary year, The Folio Society, publisher of beautiful, illustrated hardback books, is delighted to be shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards (The Nibbies) 2022.
The Folio Society is a great British brand, known throughout the world. Inclusion on the shortlist recognises the radical change Folio has undergone in the last 5 years culminating in becoming an Employee Ownership Trust in December 2021. During the past year, Folio achieved double digit growth in the face of extremely challenging trading conditions, published award-winning books and grew to over 75,000 customers worldwide. These outstanding results build on its previous year which also saw strong growth for the London-based publisher.
In 2021 Folio moved into new genres whilst maintaining the best of their classic and contemporary publishing, and expanding their limited edition programme. They continue to produce some of the most beautiful books in the world, and constantly push the boundaries of book production, design and illustration.
Joanna Reynolds, CEO said: ‘It is very exciting to be shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year – alongside other great publishers. This recognises the huge progress Folio has made and the way our talented team has enthusiastically driven the business forward. We are a global brand, publishing best in category books that our customers tell us are a joy to own. What a great way to celebrate our 75th birthday.’
Tom Walker, Publishing Director commented: ‘We’re thrilled to be on this shortlist of amazing and innovative publishers. Folio has changed radically over the last few years, and it’s lovely to have that recognised just as we celebrate 75 years and become an employee-owned trust.’
The British Book Awards, aka The Nibbies, represent the absolute best of the book trade, showcasing the books, bookshops, agents and publishers who make the publishing industry shine. The Folio Society has been shortlisted alongside seven other independent publishers. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 23 May 2022.
