What does it take to create a book fit for the Iron Throne?

For the greatest fantasy novel of our time, only the most exceptional craftsmanship was good enough. Every detail has been considered, from the handmade endpapers to the hand-finished leather cover, bringing together centuries-old craftsmanship to create one of Folio's most ambitious books. Creating just 1,000 copies was a project that called on the expertise of papermakers, bookbinders, printers and craftspeople across the UK and beyond. Their extraordinary skill can be seen on every page.

Our behind-the-scenes film begins at The Paper Foundation in Cumbria, where the endpapers are crafted with a bespoke dragon watermark from a flax and black cotton rag pulp (suspiciously similar to dragons blood ...). From there, the journey continues to Ludlow Bookbinders, where each copy is assembled by hand, featuring a bespoke 'dragonskin' leather created by Harmatan and Oakridge Leathers, together with Jonathan Burton's artwork, a linen map and a 24 carat gold limitation label signed by George R. R. Martin.
