Society of Illustrators honour Folio artists

2013 is already proving to be a triumphant year for Folio illustrators and artists. In November it was announced that the Balbusso twins were to be awarded a 2013 gold medal by the Society of Illustrators, for their work on The Folio Society’s edition of Eugene Onegin. Beating off stiff competition from artists around the world, the Balbusso sister’s illustration ‘Tatyana’ from Alexander Puskin’s classic love story won in the book category. Their work will be exhibited along with the illustrations of other leading contemporary artists in the society’s annual exhibition in New York, beginning this January.

Joining the Balbusso twins, in the Sequential/Series category, Jonathan Burton took a silver medal for his work on the new Folio Society playing cards. This specially commissioned deck of cards features striking and original illustrations which give a hilarious new twist on traditional styles. The deck is an exclusive gift to members purchasing from The Folio Society Sale. A long-time collaborator with the Folio Society, Burton has illustrated numerous Folio editions - including our editions of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

The Folio Society is delighted to congratulate these artists on their enormous success, a great beginning to 2013.
