New screen adaptation of Alice in Wonderland

Sweeney Todd director Tim Burton lends it his singular vision

A new film adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton, will be released in March 2010. The Disney production features an all-star cast with, among others, Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat and Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar. An Australian actress, Mia Wasikowska, is making her debut as Alice. The film has been shot with 3-D animation, and promises to be as imaginative and offbeat as the rest of Burton’s oeuvre, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands. You can read more details about it here.

Producer Richard Zanuck said, ‘This is for little people and people who read it when they were little 50 years ago’. The same is true of our enchanting facsimile edition of Lewis Carroll’s original manuscript, Alice's Adventures Under Ground, featuring the artist's own drawings.
