Folio wins at the V&A Illustration Awards 2012

The annual prize-giving ceremony for the V&A Illustration Awards was held on 11 June, and we are delighted to announce that Folio illustrator Matthew Richardson won the Book Cover Illustration Award for his work on The Outsider. The judges described the decision as unanimous, also commenting on the book's strong production values.

Matthew came to illustrate our edition of Camus's masterpiece through the inaugural House of Illustration/Folio Society Book Illustration Competition, which he won last year. His collage-style images, both inside the book and in the arresting cover design, capture perfectly the alienation of the inscrutable protagonist, Meursault.

The V&A Illustration Awards celebrate the art of illustration by recognising the best work published each year. Past winners include Laura Carlin, who is a regular Folio illustrator, and Tom Burns in 2008 for his illustrations for the Folio edition of the New York Trilogy.
