Folio supports the Evening Standard's Get London Reading campaign

1,000 free books for 20 secondary schools

The Folio Society has donated 1,000 free books to the London Evening Standard's campaign to promote reading in the city's schools. The donation will help 20 secondary schools improve library services for pupils, with illustrated editions of classic works such as Wuthering Heights, The Canterbury Tales and The Complete Works of Shakespeare. As well as introducing new authors and genres, it is hoped that the original illustrations and bindings of the books will inspire young readers. Managing Director of The Folio Society Robert Preece (pictured), says: 'We are proud to be supporting the Standard's literacy campaign. It is our hope that we can instil a love of books and reading in children of all ages for generations to come.' Eligible schools are those in which at least 33 per cent of children receive free school meals. Click here to read the Evening Standard's coverage of the scheme.
