Recent awards for Folio authors and illustrators

P. D. James, Grahame Baker Smith among those honoured

We are very proud of the eminent range of people who have contributed to Folio Society books - something that has been brought home in the last few weeks by a number of awards. P. D. James, whose first novel, Cover her Face, is published by The Folio Society, has been awarded the Theakston Old Peculier Award for Outstanding Contribution to Crime Fiction. She will be officially presented with the prize on 21 July at the Harrogate Crime Writing festival.

Another major prize, the Kate Greenaway Medal, has been awarded to Grahame Baker Smith for his book FArTHER. Grahame has illustrated many books for Folio, including the forthcoming Pinocchio (available in the autumn), which we feel is destined to become a Folio classic - here's a glimpse of one of the illustrations. The prize is one of the most prestigious illustration awards and we are delighted to congratulate Grahame. You can find out more here.

John le Carré, whose Karla Trilogy is published by Folio, has just been awarded German's Goethe Medal for 'outstanding service to the German language and international cultural dialogue'. Le Carré, who recently donated his literary archive to the Bodleian Library, is a fluent German speaker whose novels 'condensed Germany's difficult role during the era of the cold war', according to the Goethe-Institut - more information here.
