Folio at the Edinburgh International Book Festival

Will Self speaks at our first sponsored event

Founded in 1947, the Edinburgh International Festival was the first of its kind. In 64 years, it has grown into one of the world's most important cultural events. For 3 weeks every year, the beautiful streets of the Scottish capital are teeming with the finest creators and performers in classical music, theatre, literature, opera, comedy, dance and the visual arts. The Edinburgh International Book Festival - which began in 1983 - is part of this great cultural melting pot. Taking place from 13 to 29 August, this year's literature festival includes the very first Folio-sponsored event.

'Psychogeography with a Stress on the Psycho' on 28 August presents novelist Will Self, who will speak about his fictionalised memoir Walking to Hollywood. Self's potent exploration of identity and our deepest fears and anxieties pushes the notion of what constitutes a memoir to its very limits. This latest work by one of Britain's leading contemporary authors is as thought provoking and controversial as one would expect - the Guardian says of it that 'beneath the apocalyptic humour and fizzing contempt of Walking to Hollywood lies the iron will and cold, self-inspecting intelligence of its author.' We are delighted to be sponsoring this event. Full details are available here. Will Self has introduced two of our recent short-story collections: Kafka's Metamorphosis and Other Stories and Ambrose Bierce's haunting The Realm of the Unreal.
