Finalists announced for The Book Illustration Competition

A new prize from The Folio Society and House of Illustration

In October 2010, The Folio Society, in association with House of Illustration, launched a new competition open to artists and illustrators from around the world who had never previously illustrated a Folio edition. The challenge was to create a binding design and series of illustrations for our planned edition of The Outsider by Albert Camus.

Over 200 entries were received - many from students and new illustrators, as well as established professionals. The judging panel included artists Quentin Blake and Laura Carlin, Joe Whitlock Blundell, Folio's Production Director, and actor and director Simon Callow. A shortlist of six finalists has been announced, and you can see their work here.

We feel the standard is very high - and looking at the submissions provides a fascinating insight into the variety of creative responses and styles that can be inspired by one book. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on 4 July. Click the link above to view all the submissions and see if you can guess who the winner will be. Everyone involved has been sworn to the strictest secrecy, but the winner will be revealed after 4 July! And The Outsider will be available to order at the start of the new membership year.
