Celebrating the centenary of Mervyn Peake

British Library exhibition and reissue of Gormenghast

On 26 July, The British Library will be hosting a celebration evening to mark the centenary of the birth of Mervyn Peake, author of The Gormenghast Trilogy but equally renowned as a poet, children's author and artist. In his long career as an illustrator, Peake visualised such classic texts as Treasure Island, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and The Hunting of the Snark, as well as his own work. The British Library event is being billed as 'an evening of words, memories and images with Peake's associates, experts and family members'. For more information on tickets, click here.

The Folio Society is marking the centenary by reissuing its edition of the The Gormenghast Trilogy, with Peter Harding's marvellous illustrations. Titus Groan, his apprentice Steerpike, twin aunts Cora and Clarice and the rest of Peake's extraordinarily creations come alive in these three volumes. We are delighted to be able to offer this edition now along with a gift of a previously unpublished print by Peter Harding of the Gormenghast towers. Members can also benefit from a discount of over 35%. Click here for more details.
