Folio books inspire beautiful cover designs at the Designer Bookbinders competition

After last year's success with Gogol, new creative ideas for The Songlines

Entries are now being welcomed for the annual competition run by the Designer Bookbinders, a society dedicated to fostering and promoting the work of British bookbinders. Entry is open to all binders (except Fellows of the Designer Bookbinders) who trained in Britain and who are resident in the UK at the time of completing their binding. The Folio Society donates the 'set book' - in last year's competition, we saw some exquisite designs for The Collected Stories of Nikolai Gogol, including the one pictured here by Hannah Brown. This year it is The Songlines, by Bruce Chatwin. The actual Folio edition, still available to order, features a beautiful binding and illustrations by Simon Pemberton. Our Production Director, Joe Whitlock Blundell, will be one of the judges, and entries will be displayed in the John Rylands Library in Manchester - it will be interesting to see how they compare to our edition!

Do visit the Designer Bookbinders' website to find out more about the competition and to view the winners of last year's competition. Click here to watch a slideshow of the beautiful bindings created for The Collected Stories of Nikolai Gogol.
