New film adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff's classic novel

The Eagle released 11 February in US and Canada, 25 March in UK

Academy Award-winner Kevin Macdonald has directed a new adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff's classic children's novel The Eagle of the Ninth. Filmed as The Eagle and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland, it tells the story of young centurion Marcus Aquila's quest to retrieve the lost eagle-standard of his father's legion from the wild lands beyond Hadrian's Wall. Much of the film was shot in Scotland, using local Gaelic-speakers as extras - the closest alternative to Pictish which the team could achieve! You can click here to go to the film's official site.

The Eagle of the Ninth and another classic Roman adventure by Rosemary Sutcliff, The Silver Branch, are both available in Folio editions illustrated by Roman Pisarev. Click the links above to find out more. The Lantern Bearers is currently in production for publication in the coming months.
