The Folio Society and The House of Illustration launch new competition

Chance to win a prestigious Folio illustration commission

The Folio Society has joined forces with The House of Illustration, the world's first centre dedicated to the art of illustration, to launch an exciting new competition. The prize is a prestigious Folio commission to illustrate a new edition of Albert Camus's The Outsider.

In the inaugural competition, open to artists aged 18 years or over who have not previously illustrated a Folio Society edition, entrants will need to submit three illustrations as well as a binding design for this classic work. The winner will be awarded a £4,000 commission to complete a collection of 7 illustrations for the book, which will be published in 2011. There will be five runner-up cash prizes of £500. A minimum of three of the six prizes will be awarded to students.

The House of Illustration is the brainchild of Quentin Blake, Britain's pre-eminent and internationally acclaimed illustrator, who felt that this often-neglected art form should have a home of its own. When the House of Illustration opens in 2012, it will be a unique cultural centre located in the heart of London. You can read more about it here.

The Folio Society is proud to support the House of Illustration in its aim to promote the art form, and we are delighted to be jointly sponsoring this competition. The judging panel will include Quentin Blake, writer and actor Simon Callow and Laura Carlin, who illustrated our edition of The Collected Stories of Anton Chekhov, published earlier this year.

Entries must be received by 10 January 2011, with winners to be announced later in the month. For more information on entering the competition, click through here.
