Exclusively available from Folio, The Folio Diary 2018 features all things medieval, from illuminated manuscripts to maps and frescoes. Opposing page a week to view.
The Folio Diary 2018 celebrates all things medieval, with a rich treasure trove of colour images from illuminated manuscripts, prayer books and herbals, maps and frescoes. Scenes of courtly love, knighthood and chivalry, feasting and hunting contrast with fascinating images of everyday life and weird and wonderful doodles and margin illustrations.
Images include: the scholar Christine de Pizan in her study, a detail of the north of England from Matthew Paris’s famous map of Britain, playing leapfrog in Bruegel’s great painting of children at play, a stunning close-up of a carpet page from the Lindisfarne Gospels, pleasure and pastimes in fresco details of a summer barbecue and a winter snowball fight, a page of prayers from the stunning Black Hours and beautiful drawings of peacocks and pheasants from a scribe’s sketchbook.
